At Jumayú's house:
One weekend in spring 2015, our friends Wolfgang and Martina invited us to visit an old acquaintance who lived in the mountains near Genalguacil, between the mountains that connect Estepona, Istán and Ubrique.
It was a pleasant surprise to discover this magical place. There lived Jumayú, an octogenarian of German origin, alone, in a very special house in the middle of nature, where he has lived for more than 30 years. Surrounded by a lush environment, his presence was imposing: long white hair, a strong build and the weathered character of someone who has lived intensely in the countryside.
With a mixture of wisdom and experience, he told us stories of his adventures and misadventures from his youth, giving us a glimpse into a life as hard as it was fascinating.
The images below reflect the strength, beauty and soul of this region, a place I hope to return to.
